Croatia Overview
Up until 1991, Croatia was fast becoming one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, and is starting to regain this status now that hostilities in the area have ceased. Now an independent nation, Croatia is an incredible place to visit.

The Adriatic coastline of Croatia boasts beaches that are as impressive as any in Europe, and it has a character and architecture which surpasses many of Europe’s more western resorts.

Croatia Essentials
Zagreb – Considering the problems of the last decade and resisting any massive structural damage, Zagreb has survived surprisingly intact. With a selection of cathedrals, museums, art galleries, designer boutiques and restaurants, Zagreb is increasingly a thriving and cosmopolitan city.

Split – The largest city on the Adriatic coastline is often maligned for its industrial output, but don’t let that put you off visiting. Split offers some fantastic attractions and like much of the rest of Croatia some exceptional architecture.

Dubrovnik – This walled medieval village is situated to the south of Croatia’s Adriatic coast. The best way to get here is by ferry and it is certainly worth the trip with some incredible architecture and picturesque cobbled streets.

Rovinj – This town lies in the beautiful coastal area of Istria. On top of the magnificent beaches here, the town centre is picturesque and has some interesting attractions, the pick being the ornate cathedral which dominates the skyline.

Croatia Calendar - Pick of the Year's Events
International Carnival of Rijeka (January – February) – This magnificent annual carnival has great tradition and attracts people from all over the world to Rijeka.

Urban Festival (July) – This modern festival runs for a week in the capital Zagreb and includes an array of performances and visual art.
